Frank Mir was asked by the UFC if he was willing to move to Strikeforce and face Daniel Cormier. As a former two-time UFC heavyweight champion, Mir had every right to say no.
Instead, Mir quickly responded with a yes, and the two are set to collide later this year. No official date has been made for the fight, and it is unknown if it will be three or five rounds.
While appearing on Monday’s The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Mir discussed his interest in taking the bout with Cormier. “DC” earned the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix title by defeating Josh Barnett earlier this year, while Mir is coming off a loss to UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.
“The Barnett win actually impressed me extremely,” Mir said. “I still feel like I have to pick his game apart. I think that if we fight each other, I’d have the advantage in striking and submissions…..(but) his wrestling is light years ahead of what mine is, even on my best day and his worst.”
Mir holds an eight-inch reach advantage over Cormier, and normally weighs in almost 20 pounds heavier.
