Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua would like nothing more than to take out Brandon Vera and cement his place as a title contender in the division. The two will collide in the main event of UFC on Fox: Shogun vs. Vera this evening.
After dropping the title to Jon Jones last year, Rua rebounded to defeat Forrest Griffin. However, in a classic five-round affair, Rua was topped by Dan Henderson, giving “Hendo” the shot at Jones later this year.
Rua knows a convincing win over Vera places him in good standing to receive a rematch with either Jones or Henderson. And that’s exactly what he plans on doing.
“I win this fight in my dreams,” Rua said. “I trained a lot for this fight. Brandon Vera is a good fighter; it is good for the fans and for the people. I am very happy to be fighting here again and I have many friends in Los Angeles. I am very motivated for (Saturday).”
