Chris Clements vs. Matt Riddle

We have our fifth and final U.S. vs. Canada match, as welterweights Chris Clements (11-4) and Matt Riddle (6-3) collide. The score is tied 2-2, so this one will decide……well, nothing, really. The referee will be Josh Rosenthal.

Round 1: Lots of smiles from both fighters as they touch gloves. Riddle shoots in for a single-leg, and takes Clements down to the mat. Clements works right back up, and they square off again, with Riddle throwing a spinning back kick. Clements in an awkward stance, throws an overhand punch to the top of Riddle’s head. Riddle tosses Clements up against the cage, but releases without doing any damage. Knee to the body by Riddle, as he ties up Clements for a short time. Riddle with a liver shot, but the ref thought it was low and more-or-less calls time. Riddle with a trip, and he lands on top and is in position to do some damage this time. Clements sprawls out, but Riddle spins and takes Clements back to the mat and is in control with 25 seconds to go. Riddle stands up and eats a series of rights to the face.

Round 2: Another liver kick by Riddle, and this time the referee doesn’t step in. Spinning back-fist by Clements, but Riddle remains standing and pushes Clements against the cage. Riddle appears fine with taking Clements down, and then standing back up. Riddle this time is keeping Clements on his back, locking in his hooks and going for a rear-naked choke. Riddle softening Clements up with blows to the face, holding Clements down with a body lock now. Clements with an elbow on the ground that lands to the face of Riddle. It seems as though Riddle is tired of eating punches from Clements, keeping him down on the canvas now. A minute to go, and Clements gets to his feet, breaking free. Clements with a powerful kick, and he looks to tee-off on Riddle. Clements lands a pair of big rights from the top as the round comes to an end.

Round 3: Riddle with the first big strike, but Clements gets up and is mad, firing off several strikes to Riddle’s face and head. Spinning back-kick by Clements, but he almost looked like it was painful to do. Riddle with a trip takedown, and is in control on top of Clements. This time, Clements powers up and they are standing again. Spinning back-fist misses by Clements and Riddle locks in a standing arm triangle that he takes to the mat with a trip, forcing Clements to tap. Riddle telegraphed the spinning move by Clements, locking in the arm triangle tight.
