Move To 205 Interests Chael Sonnen

Chael Sonnen knows that he is a long way from getting a third meeting with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. So, Sonnen seems to be pondering the idea of bumping back up to 205 pounds and competing in the UFC’s light heavyweight division.

Sonnen, who many thought might just retire after his second defeat to Silva recently, informed UFC Tonight that he isn’t likely to do that. Instead, he believes there is still plenty left in the gas tank.

“I love this sport and I would never want to retire,” Sonnen said. “Physically I’m fine. Mentally I’m fine. Give me a couple of weeks to settle in and when you get in the spot that I am in, we will see. Anderson could retire any day now. And there is simply an option to start over by changing weight class. My mentors have done it and it could happen.”

Sonnen went on to say that, “there are some great guys at 185, but traditionally and historically, it is a good way to get a fresh start and start over (by switching weights).” Sonnen actually debuted in the UFC in 2005 at 205, falling to Renato Sobral.
