Aaron Simpson overcame a slow start to dominate Kenny Robertson and claim a decision victory in his UFC debut at welterweight Wednesday night. The fight was part of UFC on FUEL TV: Munoz vs. Weidman, as Robertson replaced an injured Jon Fitch in the match.
While “A-Train” was happy that he picked up the victory, he was hoping to have a finish in his debut at 170. Simpson is now 12-3 in his career and 4-1 in his last five.
“I gotta finish guys at this weight,” Simpson said. “This business is built on (finishing fights). It’s just a matter of putting in the work. I just gotta be a little bit better out there.”
Simpson decided to drop down from middleweight after a decision loss to Ronny Markes earlier this year. He now owns victories over the likes of Eric Schafer and Brad Tavares, with his only other two career defeats coming vs. Mark Munoz and Chris Leben.
