UFC president Dana White doesn’t believe the crazy antics by Chael Sonnen are what made UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II so successful. UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva knocked out Sonnen Saturday night, retaining his title against the man who almost took it from him two years ago.
“The first fight sold this fight,” said White, during the post-fight press conference. “Chael saying crazy things didn’t sell it. Thef irst fight did. The crazy (expletive) whooping he put on Anderson sold this fight.”
Silva was on his back for nearly the entire first round, as Sonnen used a big double-leg to take Silva to his back. Much like the first meeting, Sonnen was unable to put “The Spider” away and the fight moved on.
In the second, Silva landed a huge body blow that curled Sonnen up. Silva jumped on his downed opponent and finished him with several punches to the face.
