UFC president Dana White has been saying that Saturday night’s UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II main event will likely go down as the biggest fight in UFC history. Well, once the numbers are rolled out here in a few days, we will know, but White doesn’t need to wait that long to confirm his feelings.
“Not only might it be the biggest rematch, but probably the biggest fight,” said White, during a recent interview with ESPN. “We have all kinds of ways to tell how a fight is trending, and this fight has been No. 1 on all the trending lists.”
White added that the gate for the Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen bout for the UFC middleweight title will set a new United States record at $7 million.
When trying to compare where pay-per-views in the U.S. rank, most are stacked up against UFC 100. The 2009 card drew 10,871 people for a total gate of just over $5.1 million. It received 1.6 million buys through pay-per-view.
