Forrest Griffin Predicts Tito Ortiz Will Be Hell….For Half A Round

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin knows he has several advantages going for him in his fight Saturday night with Tito Ortiz at UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II.

Griffin and Ortiz have met twice previously, splitting their two meetings. Griffin captured the latest fight, but knows Ortiz will be motivated, as this bout is his final one in the UFC.

“He can only be so healthy at 37 when you’ve been fighting people for 15 years,” said Ortiz, in a recent interview with UFC.com. “I’m sure he’ll be in shape. He’s been breathing the rare air, he comes out hard, and I expect a motivated, in shape, Tito.”

What Ortiz lacks in youth, he will likely make up for in excitement. Ortiz will be inducted into the UFC’s Hall of Fame just several hours prior to facing Griffin.

“He is gonna come out on fire, he’s gonna come out to handle business, and one of the things I’ve got to make sure I don’t let happen is to get taken down while he’s fresh,” Griffin said. “He’s gonna go for the kill off the jump and I think with everything going on, he’s going to be hell for the first half of the first round.”

Griffin knows that this fight with Ortiz is important, though he is still several slots away from competing for the title once again, as the former Ultimate Fighter champion said, “I’m far afield from that right now.”
