It’s not Renan Barao, or Urijah Faber, for that matter. However, don’t tell Ivan Menjivar his fight at UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen 2 isn’t the biggest of his career.
With the UFC bantamweight division kind of at a pause with Dominick Cruz going down, Menjivar and Mike Easton will meet on July 7 in a key bout to help determine the pecking order in the division.
Menjivar was thought to be a possible opponent for Faber in the bout to create an interim champion. However, Barao was instead switched out of a fight with Menjivar and into the contest against Faber.
That’s fine by Menjivar, who told MMASucka.com he is just ready to go to battle with Easton.
“I don’t want to hurt him, if I choke him I don’t want to choke him too hard,” Menjivar said. “If he hits me, not too hard please; I want to remember the fight. Win or lose, I just want to go out to the ring and have a beautiful fight.”
Menjivar is a perfect 3-0 in his last three appearances inside the Octagon. His last loss came to Brad Pickett in the WEC in late 2010.
