When Nick Diaz announced inside the Octagon that he was retiring following a loss to Carlos Condit earlier this year, most felt it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. Well, since that fight at UFC 143, Diaz has stayed retired and away from MMA.
Cesar Gracie, the long-time friend, trainer and coach for Diaz, offered up his take on the retirement of Diaz during an interview with Fight Hub TV.
“There’s retired and there’s retired. One day, you have a job and you retire, you’re retired,” Gracie said. “But Nick’s too young. I think the word can be used, how about temporarily retired? I think that would be a better thing about it; he’s temporarily retired.”
Diaz has continued to stay in shape, but did pull out of a jiu-jitsu bout earlier this year. He also was unable to get his suspension reduced by the Nevada Athletic Commission, keeping him out until at least February.
