Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will not be exchanging Christmas cards later this year. In fact, the two will likely never see eye-to-eye on anything.
On July 7, Silva will enter the Octagon to defend his UFC middleweight title for a second time against Sonnen in the main event of UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen 2. UFC president Dana White felt as if he was in a different universe during a recent conference call featuring the two, as “The Spider” was the aggressor and Sonnen remained in a more conservative approach.
“I’ve promoted every Anderson Silva fight since he’s been in the UFC in 2006, and I’ve never heard him talk even remotely like this. He is uually so respectful and doesn’t say anything negative or disrespectful,” White said. “I’ve never heard Anderson talk like this – and I’ve never heard Chael be so sincere about how bad he wants to win this fight and what it means to him to be the UFC world champion.”
Sonnen appeared well on his way to claiming the title when the two rivals first met, but Silva locked in a submission hold in the fifth and secured the victory. Sonnen was ahead on all the scorecards at the time of the choke.
