On an eleven-fight winning streak with four of those victories having come in the UFC, Mike Russow is quietly making a case for himself to be ranked among the heavyweight division’s best.
This weekend, he’ll face Fabricio Werdum in the co-main event of UFC 147; the Brazilian submission artist presents another significant step up in competition for Russow. Confident that he’s in the best shape of his career, the Chicago police officer believes that a victory over Werdum would vault him up the rankings and solidify his place as one of the best.
“I believe I’m right up there with the top (of the division),” Russow asserted on today’s UFC 147 conference call. “I’ve had some injuries and have been averaging one fight a year. I’m excited this year to have two fights already, and I just want to keep going. Hopefully this will be a good sign. Fabricio, I have a lot respect for. He’s ranked around fifth in the world. A win over him on Saturday would get my career really going and really jump start it. It would be huge.”
UFC 147 takes place this Saturday at the Mineirinho Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
