Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s broken arm has not healed correctly, forcing him out of a planned UFC 149 encounter with Cheick Kongo. The withdrawl of Nogueira was confirmed by MMAjunkie.com.
In place of Nogueira will be Shawn Jordan, who is 1-0 in his UFC career. Jordan-Kongo is still expected to be part of the main card.
Jordan, a former LSU football standout, defeated Oli Thompson in his UFC debut. He sports a career mark of 13-3.
Kongo (17-7-2) was hoping to make an impact against the former interim UFC heavyweight champion. Instead, he’ll seek his 11th career UFC victory vs. Jordan.
The UFC 149 main card has lost UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. The new main event is Urijah Faber-Renan Barao for the interim UFC bantamweight title.
