Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante Tests Positive For Banned Substance

According to a report filed by Max Boxing’s Gabriel Montoya (and later confirmed by MMAFighting), former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante tested positive for a banned substance following his May victory over Mike Kyle.

Cavalcante fought Kyle at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier on May 19 in San Jose, California, defeating his opponent via guillotine choke in the first round of what was a 205lbs title eliminator.

The California State Athletic Commission has not yet released the exact substance that Cavalcante tested for, but the Brazilian fighter has been suspended for one year and fined $2,500 as a result.

Cavalcante’s manager, Ed Soares, told MMAFighting that the current plan is to appeal the suspension.

“I believe in his innocence, and we’re fighting it,” Soares said. “We stand behind him. There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t make sense.”

No word yet on whether or not the victory will be ruled a No Contest.
