Make no mistake, the armbar Erik Perez had John Albert in was tight — it might even have forced Albert to tap — but neither man was allowed to see that sequence through to its proper end.
Referee Kim Winslow stepped in before Albert tapped, verbally or otherwise, or anything was broken and halted their TUF: Live Finale fight prematurely.
Albert was awarded his win bonus by the UFC anyway as a result of the controversial stoppage, but that won’t be quite enough for the 25-year-old.
Speaking with MMAWeekly Radio this week, Albert announced his intentions to file a formal appeal against the stoppage with the Nevada State Athletic Commission which oversaw the event.
If it goes through, the result of the bout will be changed to a no contest.
Albert also said that he isn’t seeking a rematch with Perez and would like to move on, but is open to the bout should the fans or the UFC want to put it together.
