The UFC has been trying to lure B.J. Penn out of retirement lately and it looks like they’ve gotten what they wanted, as the Hawaiian legend has accepted the challenge posed by 22-year-old phenom Rory MacDonald.
MacDonald respectfully called out Penn on MMAFighting’s The MMA Hour, prompting the former dual-division champion to publicly accept his challenge. MacDonald also spoke about the fight with Canada SportsNet, discussing how much a fight against Penn would mean to him.
“That would be very exciting,” MacDonald said of a bout with Penn. “If I ever got to fight a legend like that, I would definitely enjoy taking that fight. He’s a great fighter, you know, and I’ve enjoyed watching his fights over the years.”
Penn retired from MMA following an October defeat to Nick Diaz, but has slowly been warming up to the idea of returning to action over the past few months. Though nothing has been officially set, it would appear that The Prodigy will have Ares as a welcoming party.
