With the top of the UFC’s welterweight division at a stand-still, Martin Kampmann is opting to repair a torn meniscus following his recent win over Jake Ellenberger. Kampmann is seen, along with Johny Hendricks, as a top contender in the division.
“I wanted to get it done a couple of fights ago, but I kept getting good fight offers,” said Kampmann, in a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com. “I only feel it when I bend it. When I bend my knee sometimes, it will click. It’s just a minor bug.”
Kampmann stormed back following a rough first round to knock Ellenberger down with some heavy knees and secure the second round victory. He is now 11-4 inside the Octagon and 20-5 overall, including back-to-back wins over Ellenberger and Thiago Alves in fights he was nearly defeated in.
