Widely regarded to be the best bantamweight not contracted by the UFC, Bibiano Fernandes has finally signed with the promotion and will face Roland Delorme at UFC 149 this July.
The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace is just coming off of winning the DREAM bantamweight grand prix; Fernandes defeated Takafumi Otsuka, Rodolfo Marques and Antonio Banuelos to take the tournament. He was also the long-reigning DREAM featherweight champion before running into Hiroyuki Takaya and losing the belt in 2010.
Fernandes sports an overall record of 11-3, his only losses to Takaya, Kid Yamamoto and Urijah Faber. He last appeared in action at DREAM’s 2011 New Year’s Eve event, where he defeated both Marques and Banuelos in the same night.
Roland Delorme, a cast member of the fourteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, is 2-0 since entering the UFC proper, having beaten Josh Ferguson and Nick Denis.
UFC 149 is scheduled to take place at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 21.
