Martin Kampmann Does It Again, Storming Back To Finish Jake Ellenberger

Just to prove his late-rally to defeat Thiago Alves was no joke, Martin Kampmann did the same thing Friday night to Jake Ellenberger. After surviving a flurry of heavy strikes by Ellenberger, Kampmann delivered a bone-crushing knee to the head, earning a second round knockout victory in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter: Live Finale.

Kampmann (20-5) has now won three straight fights and likely placed himself in a title-eliminator with Johny Hendricks later this year in the UFC’s welterweight division. The string of wins come on the heels of two close decision losses to Diego Sanchez and Jake Shields.

“I saw an opportunity to finish and I just wanted to get him,” Kampmann said. “I need to get punched to wake up.”

Ellenberger (27-6) did that, dropping Kampmann in the opening round. The loss snapped a six-fight win streak for Ellenberger, which included victories over Sanchez and Shields.

“I knew Martin would be a tough fight,” Ellenberger said. “He caught me; he had a better night.”
