Daniel Cormier caused a delay in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix conclusion due to breaking his hand on the head of Antonio Silva. Now, “DC” may have injured the same hand once again.
Cormier defeated Josh Barnett in the finals Saturday night from San Jose, scoring the GP title despite not being one of the original eight to be in the field. In training after the Silva bout, Cormier re-injured the hand, causing more of a delay in the already-year-long-tournament.
“I think I re-broke my hand in the first round, so I stopped throwing it for a while,” said Cormier, during the post-fight press conference. “In a fight, you must be able to use all your weapons, so I punched, kicked, knee’ed, elbowed.”
“DC” added that he will have surgery once again on the injured hand, but doesn’t believe it will be as in-depth as the first surgery. Cormier, who is 10-0 in his MMA career, also said he hopes to fight twice more before the year is out.
