Tonight on The Ultimate Fighter: Live UFC president Dana White announced that Urijah Faber will indeed be facing Renan Barao at UFC 148 for the interim bantamweight title.
Barao steps in for UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, who blew out his ACL training to face Faber.
Barao (28-1, 1 NC) is riding an eighteen-fight winning streak, with three of those wins coming in the UFC. The 25-year-old Brazilian has garnered a lot of hype since entering the UFC’s 135lbs division, with wins over Cole Escovedo, Brad Pickett and Scott Jorgensen placing him at the forefront of the division.
Faber (26-5) rebounded from a close and controversial loss to Dominick Cruz at UFC 132 last July by submitting former champ Brian Bowles in round two of their UFC 139 meeting. Faber was set to take on Dominick Cruz in a rubber match.
UFC 148 is slated for July 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas; the event will be headlined by the long-awaited rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.
