Mike Roberts, the manager for former WEC champion Anthony Pettis, told MMAWeekly.com that his fighter would not be ready to return from shoulder surgery before September. This puts the odds of a Pettis-Donald Cerrone bout happening in August at UFC 150 as highly-unlikely.
Pettis has surgery earlier this year to fix an issues with his shoulder, and has a target return date of late in the summer. Cerrone, who earned a win over Jeremy Stephens this past weekend, said he would like to fight in Denver at UFC 150, and thought “Showtime” would make a perfect foe.
Roberts added that Pettis is still hoping for a match with Nate Diaz to confirm the No. 1 contender in the UFC’s lightweight division. Diaz has said he will hold on to his status as the next championship-fighter while Benson Henderson defends the crown against Frankie Edgar.
