UFC On FUEL TV 3: T.J. Grant Vs. Carlo Prater

Round 1: Prater with a double-jab that goes upstairs then down. They being exchanging early on, both men landing punches and leg kicks. They clinch, with Grant getting the better of things with dirty boxing. Grant ducks under and grabs a solid body lock, but can’t force the takedown. Prater works Grant against the fence, trying for a single leg of his own. Grant defends and breaks free, going back to putting solid offense together. Grant defends a takedown and threatens with a guillotine; he turns the guillotine into a knee-tap takedown and gets Prater to the mat; Prater goes for the kneebar to reverse, but Grant ends up on top. Grant gets in some ground and pound and passes to side control before the bell.

Round 2: Grant catches a kick and walks Prater into the fence. He fights for the takedown, but Prater defends well. Grant nails Prater with an elbow on the break. They’re back in the clinch and on the cage briefly, but Grant disengages again and goes back to work striking. So far, Grant is edging Prater out by virtue of his timing, pressure and all-around skill proficiency. Prater goes for a single leg, but Grant defends well and threatens for the guillotine before getting the takedown himself. Grant moves into the crucifix position; Prater ends up pulling one arm out and having Grant sit on his head, punching him. Prater gets to his knees and manages to reverse before the bell.

Round 3: Grant putting his strikes together well early on. Prater trying to close the distance, Grant keeping him off and working from range. Grant shoots for the takedown and gets it; Prater threatening with the guillotine, but Grant defends and moves to side mount. Prater defending and trying to work to his feet, but Grant is all over him. Grant goes to take his back as Prater rolls to his knees, eventually forcing his way into mount. Great ground work by Grant. Grant scoring with short ground shots and shoulder strikes. Prater tries to escape and Grant takes his back, dragging him to the mat. Prater manages to escape, but Grant stays on him with the front headlock. Grant moves around to the back again and lands a few punches; Prater stands and Grant lifts him for the suplex. Grant takes Prater’s back and transitions to the armbar with seconds to go. Prater survives, but barely.
