The UFC officially announced today that the UFC 147 fight card will take place from the “Mineirinho” (Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond) soccer stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The event will be headlined by the rematch between Brazilian MMA legends Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort. The two middleweights can currently be seen serving as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, the first international edition of the UFC’s flagship reality show.
Silva and Belfort initially met in 1998 at UFC Brazil in Sao Paulo, where Belfort earned a fast TKO over The Axe Murderer.
The final episode of TUF: Brazil will air the week before UFC 147, with the finals matches from the show to take place on the fight card. A heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Mike Russow is also scheduled to take place at UFC 147; the event is scheduled for June 23.
Originally, the fight card was to take place at a stadium in Rio de Janeiro and feature the blockbuster rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen. A conflict with the United Nations Rio+20 conference saw that bout rescheduled and UFC 147 moved to Belo Horizonte.
