The user known as Front Row Brian has been breaking news at an alarming rate in the past few weeks on his Twitter account. Now, it appears he has done it again, reporting that Strikeforce lightweight contender Josh Thomson has suffered a torn PCL and will likely be forced out of a planned title match with Gilbert Melendez next Saturday.
Thomson and Melendez are scheduled to meet for a third time from San Jose, California on May 19 in the co-main event. The card will air on Showtime.
“—Breaking— Josh Thomson has suffered a knee injury and his fight with Gilbert Melendez on 5/19 is in jeopardy,” Front Row Brian posted. “BREAKING ***Update*** Josh Thomson has suffered a Torn PCL.”
He added that Thomson, who has battled injuries over the past few years, wants to still fight Melendez, but it is unlikely he can with the injury. The current Strikeforce card includes the finals in the heavyweight grand prix between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier.
