Jon Jones and Dan Henderson have known for a few weeks now that they will do battle later this year for Jones’ UFC light heavyweight title. Now, the two have an official date to circle.
UFC president Dana White announced on his Twitter account late Wednesday night that Jones-Henderson will happen on September 1 from Las Vegas. No further announcement was made concerning the event.
Jones has successfully defended the belt three times against former champions since securing the title from Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. “Bones” has defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans.
Hendersn, a former Strikeforce and Pride champion, earned the title shot by defeating Rua in a match that many called one of the best of 2011.
