Just as soon as the UFC made UFC 149 official, a change has been made. Siyar Bahadurzada will replace an injured Yoshihiro Akiyama in a welterweight bout with Thiago Alves.
The fight is scheduled to remain on the main card, which will take place July 21 from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will defend his title against Erik Koch in the main event.
Bahadurzada (21-4-1) won his UFC debut earlier this year by knocking out Paulo Thiago early in the first round. The KO was his 11th in 21 career victories.
Alves (19-9) was on his way to a victory over Martin Kampmann in his most recent bout before “The Hitman” locked in a choke and picked up the submission. Alves is just 2-4 in his last six bouts.
