Urijah Faber has been training and preparing for his UFC bantamweight title match with Dominick Cruz for several months. Now, with Cruz out of the planned co-main event for UFC 148 in July, Faber is hoping the UFC creates an interim title in his absence.
In a recent video released by “The California Kid,” he sets it up pretty nicely for the UFC, mentioning several candidates who would be worthy challengers for the former WEC champion.
“I’m thinking an interim title. He’s been out almost a year-and-a-half now once this surgery goes through, it’s going to be another nine months, so I’m hoping for a top contender,” Faber said. “Renan Barao in my opinion is next up, Michael McDonald after that, and Ivan Menjivar after that, so I’m just waiting to see.”
Barao and Menjivar are currently scheduled to meet at the same July 7 card, while McDonald is coming off a knockout victory over Miguel Torres. It remains an unknown what the UFC will do, even in regards to The Ultimate Fighter: Live, where Faber and Cruz are the coaches.
