In just a few short weeks, Frank Mir will step inside the Octagon with UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC 146. The card takes place May 26 from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mir, a former champion himself, took the place of Alistair Overeem in the title fight after Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test. Now, Mir gets his shot at “Cigano.”
“It’s our first fight and I guess he’s one of the most dangerous strikers I’ve ever fought,” said Mir, in a recent interview with Tatame. “Junior dos Santos is always submitting people on their feet and he’s a better boxer, but that’s all he brings to this scenario. His strongest point is boxing.”
Mir defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, the mentor and frequent training partner of JDS, but Mir doesn’t feel like dos Santos will be out for revenge in the fight, just that, “he wants to remain as the champion.”
