UFC On FOX 3: Tony Ferguson Vs. Michael Johnson

Round 1: Johnson starts out with two solid leg kicks, one to the inside and one to the outside. Johnson sneaks in a left hand. It’s evenly contested so far, both man showing the other a lot of respect. Ferguson slips on a kick. Johnson floors Ferguson with a right hand. Ferguson hops back up, but the momentum has shifted in Johnson’s favor. Johnson working kicks into his offense well. Ferguson looks to be a bit confused on how to take control. Johnson chopping away with kicks to the legs and body, interrupted by punches. Ferguson closes the round with a hard kick to the body and some hard follow up punches.

Round 2: The second starts out measured, both men respectful of the other’s stand up. Things start to heat up, they dig in and trade punches from the picket, both men getting in good punches. Neither man is running away with it in the second frame, but Johnson is still keeping up the more varied attack. Ferguson sticks Johnson with a left. Johnson answers with one of his own to back Ferguson up. Just over a minute to go and it’s still evenly matched. Johnson shoots for the takedown as the round closes but Ferguson defends.

Round 3: Fergsuon comes out aggressive, but Johnson lands the first very significant shot with an overhand left. Ferguson lands a straight right that buckles Johnson. Johnson recovers immediately. It’s mostly more of the same in this round: the fight is being contested exclusively on the feet and it’s staying very even. Johnson sticks Ferguson with a straight left that momentarily weakens his knees. Johnson goes for the takedown and is stuffed. Johnson turning it up as the round closes, tagging Ferguson with some solid punches. Johnson popping Ferguson’s head back.
