All of this should be confirmed on Tuesday, but an early report by Tatame has stated that the planned UFC 147 card from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will be shifted to Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais (a state in Brazil) and the Mineirinho Arena. That means a new site and date for the planned Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen rematch, as well.
The UFC 147 card will remain on June 23, but will move away from Rio and the United Nations peace conference that takes place in the days leading up to the event. A concern over the number of available hotel rooms, and problems with the local government, are the main reasons for the change.
Now, Silva-Sonnen 2 will happen July 7 at UFC 148 from Las Vegas. On Tuesday, UFC president Dana White, Silva and Sonnen will host a press conference in Brazil where all of these changes are expected to be confirmed.
Also, a rumor floating around that Silva would not fight Sonnen anywhere but in Brazil was squashed by White on Twitter late Friday night, as the UFC boss said there was no truth to that.
The UFC 147 card is expected to feature Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort, along with the finals in The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil tournaments.
