Olympic bronze medalist Alexis Vila doesn’t figure to be a free agent for very long. With a solid 11-2 record, and his past credentials, Vila is hoping to land a spot in the UFC’s flyweight division.
“I know that (bantamweight) is not my weight class, so I want to prove I’m the best flyweight in the world,” said Vila, on a recent edition of MMAjunkie Radio.
Vila was released by Bellator following two straight losses. He won a wrestling medal at the 1996 Olympics, and said he once auditioned for a spot on The Ultimate Fighter 14.
Despite being 41 years old, Vila said, “I take care of myself, do the right thing, train, and that’s it.” He feels he has several years left in the MMA game.
