Battling back problems and a loss to Renan Barao, Pickett answered any questions about his spot among the top bantamweights in the world with a stunning submission over Damacio Page at UFC on FUEL 2. The Brit’s second round victory was good for fight of the night honors on Saturday.
“I’m over the moon with tonight,” remarked Pickett. “I’m happy to get back on winning tracks. I’m here in the UFC to try and do something with myself not just happy being here. I want to be something in my division.”
“One Punch” capitalized on a left hook that floored Page, sinking in the rear-naked choke on the ground. Pickett advances to 21-6 with his first win inside the Octagon and had plenty to say about his opponent’s effort.
“Hats off to Damacio Page. He brought the fight to me. Normally, I have to try and bring the fight out of a fighter but he came straight at me and he made for a great fight,” said Pickett.
The former WEC veteran has faired well against some of the toughest competition in the UFC, going 3-2 in his most recent fights against the likes of Demetrious Johnson, Scott Jorgensen, Ivan Menjivar, Renan Barao and now Page. At the age of thirty-three, he will have to go on quite a tear if he wants a title shot but for now he can enjoy the victory and focus on putting his bonus to good use.
“I don’t have a car, I don’t have a house. I don’t have nothing like this. Eventually now, I think I’ve paid my dues and I’m starting to reap the benefits. Hopefully now, I can use some of that to get my own house.”
