On the cusp of contendership, Alexander Gustafsson will seek to continue his rise when he takes on Thiago Silva tomorrow in the main event of UFC on Fuel TV 2, the promotion’s first ever show to be held in Sweden.
That means Gustafsson will be fighting in his home country for the first time since 2009. In the years since that last bout on native soil, Gustafsson has managed to string together a four-fight winning streak inside the octagon, positioning himself as a possible contender in doing so.
Returning to compete in Sweden in his most high-profile fight to date, the spotlight is focused squarely on the talented 25-year-old — and he’s happy with this new attention.
“You know, I just enjoy every second of being in the spotlight,” Gustafsson said this week. “I’ve been one hundred percent focused on my training. So, that’s where my head is. It’s just been great. I’m super-excited. I just love to do what I do here. It’s all good.
“(The attention has) been increased for me, absolutely,” he added. “It’s a little bit new for me, but I’m enjoying it.”
UFC on Fuel TV 2 goes down tomorrow from the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. FightLine will have live coverage of the event beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 p.m. PT.
