30-year-old Italian mixed martial artist Alessio “Legionarius” Sakara will return to the cage for the first time in over a year this weekend to meet the All-American, Brian Stann.
The two middleweights will meet in the co-main event of UFC on FUEL TV 2: Gustafsson vs. Silva, both men looking to rebound from a loss. With his injuries healed and personal trouble behind him, Sakara is looking to make a big statement against Stann, an opponent that he clearly respects.
“He’s a tough opponent, but I’m very happy because I want to fight only tough opponents,” Sakara said in a recent interview with MMAHeat’s Karyn Bryant. “It’s very nice, because he’s a similar style, standup/striking. I know I’ll give a big show for all the people, the fans of the UFC.”
A former professional boxer, Sakara is happy to be facing someone with a similar proclivity for trading heavy leather. He believes that this convergence of like-styles will result in at least one fight night bonus.
“(I’ll win) Knockout of the Night or Fight of the Night because it’s a very nice fight,” Sakara predicted. “It’s a very good combination of opponents, me and Brian Stann.”
UFC on FUEL TV 2 goes down on Saturday at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. FightLine will have live, ongoing coverage of the event, as always.
