“The Ultimate Fighter: Live” Episode 5 Recap

An emotional episode is in store, as Mike Chiesa will take on Jeremy Larsen in another live fight at The Ultimate Fighter: Live. Chiesa you will remember lost his father after winning his elimination-round bout, taking a leave from the show to attend the funeral.

We see a recap of Chiesa’s early days in the house, including the emotional days following the passing of his father. We also get a recap of Al Iaquinta’s win over Myles Jury from last week, giving Urijah Faber his first team victory over Dominick Cruz.

Chris Tickle receives news from a doctor that he is suffering from gout, which is making it painful for him to practice. This does not go over well with his coach, Cruz, who tells him to push forward.

Chiesa and Larsen each make weight, with Chiesa coming in at 155 and Larsen hitting the scale at 154. Both fighters seem ready to go, as are the respective coaches.

Chiesa jumps the gun on Larsen, scoring with a takedown and dropping elbows to the grounded Larsen. Another takedown in the opening round leaves Chiesa in complete control, but the Team Faber fighter is deducted a point after nailing Larsen with an illegal knee. The deduction was clear, as Chiesa nearly avoided having the point taken away on several instances before he finally did connect with Larsen still on the mat.

FightLine scores the round 9-9 with the point deduction

Round two opens up with Chiesa in control once again, scoring on every takedown attempt when he goes from working a single-leg to a double-leg. His power seems like too much for Larsen. Larsen finally gets the fight back to the feet, but Chiesa takes it to the mat just as fast, clamping in hooks and nearly recording a rear-naked choke victory. Larsen, however, survives as the clock expires.

FightLine scores the round 10-9 for Chiesa

Mike Chiesa defeats Jeremy Larsen via unanimous decision.

Next week, Tickle will represent Team Cruz against Joe Proctor of Team Faber with the score tied up at 2-all.
