UFC heavyweight No. 1 contender Alistair Overeem failed the surprise pre-fight drug test given by the Nevada State Athletic Commission last week. Keith Kizer, Executive Director for NSAC, confirmed Overeem’s failure to MMAjunkie.com.
Kizer said Overeem’s “A” sample was flagged for an elevated T/E ratio that exceeded 10-to-1, above the limit of 6-to-1. Kizer added that Overeem can request to have his “B” sample tested, which would allow him to receive a fight license.
As it stands, the Junior dos Santos-Overeem bout set for UFC 146 appears to be off due to “The Reem’s” failed test. The other five heavyweights who were tested – dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva – all passed their tests.
