Former Ultimate Fighter runner-up Vinny Magalhaes (9-5) will head to Oregon to train with Chael Sonnen as he prepares for his bout with Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight title.
Silva and Sonnen will meet later this year in Brazil at UFC 147, as Sonnen seeks to avenge a submission loss to “The Spider.” Magalhaes is a second-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
“Forget about my last post about competing. Instead, I’m heading to Oregon to help the UFC MW Champ get ready for his title fight in Brazil,” wrote Magalhaes on his Twitter account.
That might have sounded weird, but you must remember, Sonnen believes he is the champion after winning the first four rounds against Silva. He tends to ignore the submission to a triangle choke in the fifth round of their fight.
Magalhaes is a free agent after leaving M-1. He has been rumored to be looking for a return to the UFC after winning his last five fights.
