Chael Sonnen has told anyone that will listen that he has yet to sign the contract to face UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 147. UFC president Dana White, however, says the match is going to happen.
“The fight is happening. He has accepted the fight, and he will be with me in Brazil for the press conference down there,” said White, in a recent interview with MMAWeekly.com. “I’d have to hold press conference just to squash all the (expletive) that Chael says.”
Silva-Sonnen II is expected to take place on June 23 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Engenhao soccer stadium. The arena is expected to be configured to allow anywhere between 60,000 and 80,000 fan.
“I think this is one of the biggest sporting events of the year,” White said. “To take NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, Formula 1, soccer, everything; this is one of the biggest sporting events of the year.”
