Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields will return to the 185-pound division for his next fight with the UFC, according to an announcement made Tuesday night on UFC Tonight. Shields had been competing in the welterweight division since joining the UFC.
As a middleweight, Shields owns victories over the likes of Dan Henderson, Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Robbie Lawler. It was also reported that Shields feels more comfortable from a physical standpoint competing at 185 pounds.
The exact date for Shields’ next fight is unknown, but the California fighter is targeting July or August of this year. Shields last competed against Yoshihiro Akiyama, earning a victory and snapping a two-fight losing streak.
