Roy Nelson Jokes About Dropping To 205 For Retirement Fight

Roy “Big Country” Nelson caused a clamor earlier this year when he declared his willingness to drop to light heavyweight — something he’s been hounded to do for some time, by fans and his boss alike — should he receive 100,000 ‘likes’ on his Facebook page.

Before the contest was over, it was announced that Nelson had signed to face Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in his UFC debut at UFC 146 and would be remaining at heavyweight for at least the foreseeable future. At today’s UFC 146 announcement presser, Nelson made it sound like light heavyweight won’t be happening anytime soon.

“Actually, the things with the ‘likes’ and stuff, you know, I got like 80,000 in a day, so I like to think that I’m well-liked,” said Nelson. “But, a lot of people stopped as soon as they found out that I was fighting heavyweight, they didn’t want me to drop down, they wanted to see me stay at heavyweight right now. I think they just like to see me fight. But, I’ll do like the Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture, fight at the 205 for retirement.”

Nelson and Silva will meet on the all-heavyweight main card of UFC 146, which is slated to take place on May 26 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
