Alistair Overeem Receives Community Service On Battery Charge

Number one UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem was sentenced today for a battery charge relating to a January 2 incident in Las Vegas.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Overeem was sentenced to fifty hours of community service and ordered to attend anger management counseling to avoid a suspended, ninety-day jail sentence.

Having remained in Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve weekend after throttling Brock Lesnar at UFC 141, Overeem allegedly shoved a woman at the Wynn Las Vegas and “caused her to stagger back.” The 31-year-old waived his right to a trial.

He’s due back in court on September 26 and, if he meets all conditions laid forth by the judge, he’ll be off the hook.

Overeem is scheduled to challenge UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC 146, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 26.
