If you’re unfamiliar with anyone out of the UFC 146 all-heavyweight pay-per-view show, it’s likely Shane del Rosario.
The undefeated 28-year-old was set to face Daniel Cormier in the most high-profile fight of his career last June, but suffered a herniated disc in his back which prohibited him from competing. Now, almost a year later, del Rosario is on the cusp of big things once again, as he’s scheduled to meet former UFC title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga on the UFC 146 main card.
On an eleven fight streak that has only seen one fight make it out of the first round (that one ended in the second…), del Rosario is a legitimate prospect on the rise. As much was evidenced in his latest win, a first-round armbar over recently successful UFC debutant Lavar Johnson.
