“Bellator 62″ Results: Four Advance To Semifinals Of Lightweight Tournament

Despite seeing the main event cancelled on Thursday, Bellator 62 delivered an incredible headliner, as Lloyd Woodard submitted Patricky “Pitbull” Freire inside the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas. Woodard, along with Rick Hawn, Brent Weedman and Thiago Michel all advanced in the tournament.

Woodard locked in a deep kimura that saw Freire’s elbow pop at the 1:46 mark of the second round. In “Rocky” fashion, Woodard screamed out, “Yo, Adrian!” following his victory.

Woodard is 12-1 in his career and 2-1 in Bellator, with his last defeat coming at the hands of current Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler. The two squared off in the semifinals of the season four lightweight tourney.

Hawn defeated Ricardo Tirloni via TKO in the first round, while Weedman submitted J.J. Ambrose with the Von Flue choke in the second. Michel advanced with a split decision victory over Rene Nazare.

The original main event was set to feature Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos, but the bout was cancelled for a second time after Santos missed weight. Instead of finding another date, Bellator awarded Prindle the tournament title and future shot at Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad.
