Rashad Evans was a recent guest on MMA Uncensored Live, and the ex-champion gave his take on his current feud with UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones. The two will finally meet next month at UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans on April 21 from Atlanta.
“Everything is 100-percent real. Unfortunately, it’s 100-percent real,” said Evans, when asked if anything was scripted when it comes to the war of words with Jones (thanks to MMAMania.com for transcribing). “It’s like one of those things where we had that respect for each other. We had that connection with each other. There’s a lot of emotion that’s still there and still raw.”
Evans and Jones were once teammates, helping fuel each other to the heights of the UFC. “Suga” won the UFC 205-pound title while training in New Mexico under Greg Jackson, but parted ways when “Bones” won the title and said he was fine facing off with Evans. The two have had several dates cancelled due to injuries and bad timing.
As for any future reconnection between the two, Evans said, “At this point, uh…I’d rather beat his (expletive). To be honest, I’d rather beat his (expletive).”
