A rematch of the controversial flyweight tournament bout between Demetrious Johnson (14-2-1) and Ian McCall (11-2-1) has been scheduled for the UFC on FX 3 fight card and not The Ultimate Fighter: Live Finale, as was initially rumored.
Johnson and McCall met in the opening round of the tournament held by the UFC to kick off the 125lbs weight division in the promotion. The two battled back and forth for three rounds, with the judges scoring the bout a draw. Under tournament rules, that meant that the bout was intended to head to a fourth, sudden death round. Unfortunately, a member of the athletic commission overseeing the fight incorrectly tallied the scores, which led to the fight being originally announced as a decision victory in Johnson’s favor.
McCall and Johnson first met in the cage on March 3 at UFC on FX 2 in Sydney, Australia. The winner of their fight will meet Joseph Benavidez — who defeated Yasuhiro Urushitani on the other side of the bracket — to dispute the vacant UFC flyweight title.
UFC on FX 3 is expected to take place on June 8 at a venue and location which are yet to be announced. The fight card is already starting to come together though, as several matchups were linked to the event yesterday, which you can view below.
