The UFC held a press conference today to officially announce the UFC 149 fight card, which is slated to take place on July 21 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
In addition to UFC 149, the promotion announced two more shows that are headed to Canada this year: UFC 152 and UFC 154. UFC 152 will take place on September 22 in Toronto, while UFC 154 is scheduled for November 17 in Montreal.
UFC president Dana White announced the promotion’s intentions to make three shows per year the norm for Canada, with Toronto, Montreal and Calgary targeted to host an event each for the next two years.
White explained exactly why the UFC is showing Canada so much love.
“You guys are awesome,” White said to the fans. “You know, I always say it: I love this place. Man, I love coming up to Canada. You guys are the best fans in the world, we appreciate it so much.”
The UFC pres then went on to list out the facts to back his statement: the UFC has held 8 total events in the country, which have drawn over 200,000 fans to host cities Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto for over 40 million in total gate revenue.
No bouts have been attached to either UFC 152 or UFC 154, though it is expected that GSP will defend his title at the Montreal show against Carlos Condit should he be healthy enough to do so.
