It’s being reported that UFC welterweight fighter Dennis Hallman (51-14-2, 1 NC) has been injured and forced to withdraw from his proposed UFC on Fox 3 bout against The Ultimate Fighter 13 winner Tony Ferguson.
Tatame reports that Thiago Tavares has stepped in as Hallman’s replacement.
A presence in the UFC’s lightweight division since 2007, Tavares (17-4-1) has rebounded from a brutal knockout to Shane Roller by defeating Spencer Fisher and Sam Stout in succession to put together a two-fight streak. He last appeared in action at UFC 142 in January, where he picked up a unanimous decision over Stout.
Since winning The Ultimate Fighter 13, Tony Ferguson (13-2) has made an impressive run in the UFC. The 28-year-old KOed Ramsey Nijem to win the show, and then ran through veterans Aaron Riley and Yves Edwards. El Cucuy last fought at the TUF 14 Finale in December of last year.
UFC on Fox 3 is expected to take place on May 5 at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey and will feature a main event between top lightweight Nate Diaz and Jim Miller.
