Mike Brown Vs. Daniel Pineda Set For UFC 146

A matchup not in the heavyweight division has been added to the UFC 146 fight card, as the promotion revealed today that featherweight fighters Daniel Pineda and Mike Brown will be tangling on the preliminary card.

“Pineda is developing as a serious contender as he will be looking for his third stoppage in the Octagon in only 5 months and riding an almost 2 year unbeaten streak,” said UFC president Dana White. “This will be the toughest test of his career, dealing with Brown’s experience, power and submission prowess.”

Former featherweight champion, Mike Brown (25-8) ended a two-fight losing streak this past August with a unanimous decision victory over Nam Phan. The victory brought the 36-year-old fighter to 1-2 in the UFC, having dropped decisions to Diego Nunes and Rani Yahya in the promotion.

Daniel Pineda (17-7) has managed to go undefeated in two Octagon appearances, submitting Pat Schilling and Mackens Semerzier in succession. He last appeared in action at UFC on FX 2 earlier this month, stepping up as a late replacement and defeating Semerzier via triangle/armbar in the first round.

UFC 146 is expected to go down on May 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
