Tyron Woodley Awaiting Word On Possible Date With Nate Marquardt

As far as Tyron Woodley is concerned, May 19 would make for a perfect date to crown a new Strikeforce welterweight champion. Rumors have Woodley facing newly-signed Nate Marquardt to fill that vacancy atop the division in Strikeforce.

“I want them to give me a bout agreement and confirm that we are going to do this on that day,” said Woodley, in a recent interview with “Because I’ve already started training.”

Woodley (10-0) is a perfect 8-0 in Strikeforce and would seemingly make a viable candidate for one of the two slots to determine a new champion. Nick Diaz left the title open when he signed with the UFC last year.

Marquardt (31-10-2) was released by the UFC and signed with BAMMA in England, but never fought for the company. He inked a deal with Strikeforce – which is owned by Zuffa – earlier this year.

May 19 is the date Strikeforce has set for Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier, which will feature the finals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier.
